What’s so great about Grindelwald, what to see and best things to do
Replica Swiss village, go shopping for a cuckoo clock
Switzerland has arrived in Tasmania. Grindelwald is a replica Swiss village complete with a resort. The Aspect Tamar Valley Resort specializes in themed entertainment and attractions focused on kids and families.
WHAT TO DO, HIGHLIGHTS
- Family Disneyland themed weekend escape
- Purchase cuckoo clocks, chocolates and Swiss style cheese.
Roelf Vos, a Dutch immigrant and prominent local businessman has reimagined a Swiss village approximately 16km from Launceston. Buildings have picturesque flower boxes and Swiss style architecture. Think mini Disneyland, the Aspect Tamar Valley Resort offers a very large mini-golf course, a pirate ship for the kids to jump and climb, go karts, electric scooters, a playground, the longest bouncing pillow in the world and tennis courts. It is not known if Roger Federer has visited the courts yet. The village also features artificial lakes where you can go canoeing or relax on a self-guided paddle boat. For the cooler months there is a heated indoor swimming pool. For adults saunas in the day spa.
The Aspect Tamar Valley Resort has a range of accommodation options and with extras such as baby-sitting services, high chairs and cots. There are a number of family friendly packages for a weekend escape.
Most inhabitants are local Tasmanians and do not speak a word of Swiss-German.
